Whether information technology be flying on a black flag symbolizing pirates or attached to a giant T-Male monarch skeleton staring downwardly at united states in a museum, the skull has forever fascinated the states. We are all familiar with our own skull of course, only could you identify what fauna a skull belongs to just past seeing information technology by itself.
The skull tin can be a valuable tool when information technology comes to identifying a species, understanding its anatomy and dietary habits, and helping us understand development. Although most natural history museums have displays of creature skulls, it can often prove difficult to find a quality guide that can help you place specimens you may come beyond in the field.

For a more consummate brute skull identification guide, nosotros highly recommend the following books.
Skulls: An Exploration of Alan Dudley's Curious Collection
Skulls is a cute spellbinding exploration of more than 300 different beast skulls—amphibians, birds, fish, mammals, and reptiles—written by New York Times bestselling writer, Simon Winchester .
At the center of Skulls is a stunning, never-before-seen-in-whatsoever-chapters, visual array of the skulls of more than 300 animals that walk, swim, and fly. The skulls are from the collection of Alan Dudley, a British collector and owner of what is probably the largest and most complete individual drove of skulls in the world. Every skull is beautifully photographed to show several angles and to give the reader the most intimate view possible. Each includes a brusque explanatory paragraph and a data box with information on the animal's taxonomy, behavior, and diet.
Volume Review:
This is an admittedly stunning book. I bought this book considering I similar to draw and pigment animals and decided it is time to learn more almost brute beefcake and the unseen structure of the skull every bit the foundation to build upon. This book will exist a valuable resource to any artist looking to practise the same. You will not be disappointed, the layout and detailed photography of this volume are amazing.

Comprehensive guide to the animals of N America. Fully illustrated with drawings and photographs. User-friendly format makes comparing species easy.
Book Review:
Without a doubtfulness, this is the best book on skulls e'er written. If you live in N America, and want to know a *LOT* most the skulls of the animals on the continent (primarily mammals, but the book does also cover birds, reptiles, and amphibians in a more express way), there is no better resource. I teach mammalogy at our local university, and waited a few years to purchase my own re-create of this book, since our campus library had one. Now that I take my own re-create I don't accept to infringe it over and over over again, and can go through it anytime I want. Definitely my go-to resource for all things pertaining to cranial osteology.
